Happy Kartini Day!

R.A. Kartini is one of the national figures who pioneered the struggle for women to gain rights and equality during the colonial era. Her struggle continues today in modern times, where women are still fighting to gain access to education, protection from gender-based violence, job opportunities, and economic equality.

Every year the Central Bureau of Statistics releases the Gender Development Index figures, which illustrate the gap in human development achievements between men and women. The closer to 100, the smaller the gap between the Human Development Index between men and women.
